Fr Maloney's book, Alone With the Alone, is a very deep treatment of discerning the presence of a transcendent God in a human soul. Penetrating an uncreated reality by a created soul will always be impossible but the book helps the soul face its God in the midst of its own poverty, weakness, imperfections and limitations. This book needs to be read slowly, a few pages at a time, from its beginning to its completion.
