Learn About the Season - a review of "All Year Long"
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
This is a nice book about the days of the week, the months of the year and the four seasons. Like many of Nancy Tafuri's other books "All Year Long" doesn't have much in the way of text. Some pages have only one word, while others may have as many as three words. Still, Tafuri manages to convey a sense of the seasons with her pictures that display large friendly bunnies, ducks, children and fireworks. As an educational tool I think the book works, though it does a better job of teaching about the seasons and months of the year than it does about the days of the week. We used a regular calendar as a supplemental aid. Since there is no `Search inside this book" feature of "All Year Long" I'll try to give you an idea of what it is like. The book starts of with a two page spread of a sled with a large "Sunday in the bottom right hand corner. On the next two pages you see fir trees and a child sliding down the hill on the sled. The "Sunday" on the previous pages is continued on these two pages with `in JANUARY". Thus the whole thought is a `Sunday in January'. The book goes on to show a groundhog in February; children out in the slush of March; ducks and a family fishing in a warmer April; children planting seeds in May; flowers, bunny and bluebirds in June; families watching fireworks in July and so on. Three and a Half Stars. Attractive artwork that is kid-friendly. The book shows the cycle of the seasons as they appear in areas that get four seasons. There is a page at the end of the book that has the 12 months with reminders of what is going on during that month.
