All Stuck Up

All Stuck up is a retelling of the old classic, the Brer Rabbit and the Briar Patch story. I already knew that this is a great story, so one of the most important questions for me was whether or not my daughter could read this book. (As far as her reading level, she's finished the Animal Antics series by Nina Gaylord up to Level 3.) Short answer is, no, my daughter couldn't read this book all by herself. She stumbled over words like caught, mighty, and sure. Here's an excerpt from the book so you can judge the difficulty level: By and by Brer Rabbit comes along. "Howdy, Mr. Boy!" he calls. "Nice day, isn't it?" Mr Boy doesn't answer. However, my daughter could read this book with some help from an adult. And more importantly, she WANTS to read this book, especially because Brer Rabbit is so tricky. She's asked to read this book to us five times now. This book was a hit in our family. We enjoyed the illustrations, and the reading level was appropriate for us. We give it two thumbs up!
