I first read this book while researching beer and the brewing process for a speech I did in high school. It is easy to understand, has some beer history, the basics of the brewing process, and some killer recipies (beer and onion pancakes is my favorite!)for cooking with beer. If you are interested in beer but know nothing-- this is the book for you! If you are an avid homebrewer or beer buff, you still may pick up some interesting trivia and you surely can get a few good recipies for cooking with the golden nectar (funny, I never tried beer and onion pancakes using a stout-- always a pale lager), but it is by no means a "must have". I read it over ten years ago and I still remember it well. That has to say something. By the way: that speech-- I got an "A+".
