A beautifully written portrait of Rabbi Akiva

Manfred (Meir)Lehman was a Jewish scholar of great distinction. He was a strong defender of Orthodoxy in nineteenth century Germany, essentially a follower of Hirsch and Hildesheimer. This historical reconstruction of the life of 'Akiva'tells the story of one of the true Gedolim of Israel , from his early years when he was unlearned and had contempt for scholars , through his meeting with the one who would be his wife, and great support in learning, 'Rachel' through his many years of service of 'Am Yisrael' to his final martyrdom in which he realizes his lifelong wish and serves G-d with all his soul. It is a beautifully written and inspiring work, rich in Jewish knowledge and faith. And very highly recommended.
