Review of The United States Air Force Academy Candidate Book

This book is a great insider on the Air Force Academy. It is a quick read and it contains much information. I want to attend the Air Force Academy and it helped show me what it's like at the Air Force Academy. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking at attending the Air Force Academy.

The Air Force Academy Candidate Book: Without it I would be lost.

As a young woman who is serious about attending the United States Air Force Academy, "The Air Force Academy Candidate Book" has guided me through the labyrinth of applying. In the admist of vying for the congressional nomination, and preparing physically, academically, and mentally, this book written by William L. Smallwood and Sue Ross, has given me advice, motivated me, and made my dream of attending the Academy attainable. If you are curious about the Academy, I suggest you purchase a copy, for it portrays the school realistically. And furthermore, if you are serious about applying, "The Air Force Academy Candidate Book" will be the most important book you will have ever read. It was for me.

Down a Darkened Corridor

Individually, they march with precision down a drakened corridor. Without exception their primary goal has become acceptance. It is earned with humility, self-sacrifice and presistence. Through the alchemy of the "4th Class System," these golden boys and girls of America's finest high schools have been transformed. Tempered by forces of pressure and stress into links of steel, they have becomen young adults mature beyond their years. They have secured a place in the Chain of Command. They have become upper classmen. They are the next generation of America's military leaders. If you or your child are thinking about applying to the Air Force Academy, you can't afford to overlook this book. Easy to read and informative, the book is built around candid interviews with cadets, graduates and instructors that have lived this truly unique experience. The book offers much more than just an explanation of how candidates succeed in the selection process. For potential cadets the book clearly explains that taking the "oath" signals a change in your "way of life," not simply the beginning of a college experience. For parents it offers a candid view of the 4th Class System, its rigors, goals and outcomes. I honestly couldn't put this book down, once I stared reading. I'n not surprised that the Academy Gift Store sells this book. It's honest, enlightening and entertaining.

Graduate of Academy used this excellent book and it helped!

This book is fantastic. It tells it how it is, and provides good sound advice for the candidate and the parents. A "must read" if you're planning on gaining admission and being prepared for the Air Force Academy.

Must Read for all prospective Academy Candidates

This is an excellant book for any high school student who is considering attending the U.S. Air Force Academy. The material is well researched and organized. The book gives you a realistic view of the Academy, but it also is very encouraging and positive for the reader. I would also reccommend this book to all the candidates' parents. It is a helpful guide. As a parent of a son who plans to attend in 2004, it is well worth it to purchase the book.
