The actress recounts her life and career up to the present, from her tough Brooklyn-to-Hollywood childhood, to her long marriage to Grant Tinker and their painful divorce, the loss of her son, and her struggles with alcoholism.
I think MTM was a pretty indulged kid…her mom, grandma & Aunt Bertie all watched over her & even though money was tight they paid for dance lessons, etc. Her father’s love was a tougher. She reveals that she has virtually no recollection of her first 6 yr. marriage & that her son was not a major priority….her ambition & career came first whilst others cared for her son. She always had a family member to fall back on. She appears to have little empathy for others, esp her child who had difficulty following her divorce. A fairly selfish person.

Mary Tyler Moore displays a great talent for writing. She holds nothing back in her book, and is brutally honest. I can't imagine a person being more honest with themselves than she is in her autobiography. It is a great read for all MTM fans.

I read this book for a summer book project and read it in only a day...usually it takes me weeks for book projects. Once I read the first page, the rest of the pages flew. You don't have to be a fan of MTM to appreciate her tell-all autobiography.
A deeply personal book

Mary Tyler Moore tells it like it is in this fabulous tell-all book. She focuses on some of the most painful experiences of her life, evoking both sympathy and understanding from the reader. Mary's sense of humor and positive outlook on life shines through as she tells us how, despite a less than perfect childhood, she has made it "after all." Wonderfully told by Mary herself, it's obvious that she put her heart and soul into this book.
