Brad Sneed brings his zany and creative talents to the world of Aesop. In his signature style of tricky perspectives, amusing exaggerations, and rich, delicate watercolors, his animal characters are beautifully realistic and yet humorously human, as they mimic a wide range of human feelings . . . and foibles. The stories of Aesop have been told and retold over the centuries; in his lively adaptation Brad Sneed updates the language and infuses these fifteen stories with a sense of humor that children will enthusiastically enjoy. And once again, as in his popular alphabet book Picture a Letter, Brad has included a wordless bonus for sharp-eyed readers of all ages-a sixteenth tale told only in pictures is hidden somewhere between the covers.
After searching through many Aesop's Fables books I decided on this one and I am SO glad I did. I plan on reading this book to my children and future grade school students. The pictures are absolutely wonderful and the fables are short enough to keep the attention of young children. Each fable is concluded with the moral of the story. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a beautifully illustrated version of Aesop's Fables. GREAT KIDS BOOK!!
illustrations are captivating

As other reviewers have noted, the text of the fables is written in a contemporary style, but with oddly dated slang. The collection also omits some favorite fables (i.e., the tortoise and the hare is illustrated but not retold, Androcles and the Lion is not included at all...). However, the illustrations really draw young readers into the tales. I would have purchased this book for the illustrations alone. Enjoy!
