The other author of this book is Jane Parker, who explored options for living abroad when few had ever considered it. She ran tours to Costa Rica, Portugal and, even Uruguay, and some of those who participated went to these and other places to live. This book has interviews and anecdotes that bring to life the voluntary expat experience (as opposed to that of individuals sent to foreign countries to work). The book is interesting, informative and vey well done. No, Jane Parker didn't write it just to promote her tours; she'd stopped doing them by the time she wrote the book. And it's not full of promotion for other companies either. True, the world has changed in the intervening years, and many more people have second homes or retirement homes outside the US. But anyone contemplating a move overseas would derive benefit and pleasure from this book.
Very informative, Florida is not the only retirement haven

I thought it was very interesting to learn of other options for retirement living other than the high priced, all-in-one "villages" in this country. Those "villages" are ok for some but, I think they are out of reach, monetarily, for most of us. The book, I think, helps people to reach sound decisions about other alternatives and what to consider when making those choices.
