Abode a la Mode: 44 Projects for Hip Home Decor

I thought this was a great book. The photography, in particular, is stellar. I probably won't get around to building any of the projects in the book exactly as the author created them, but it is one of my favorite books of the year in terms of providing a great design influence. By that I mean that I really liked the feel and style of a lot of the projects, so that was where its value is for me. I also really like design that has a re-use & recycle slant to it, so this was up my alley. The book won't be all things to all people-- which one ever is?-- but if you like ReadyMade magazine, for example, and if you appreciate DIY modern design with a funky flair, I definitely recommend this book.

Abode a la Mode hadn't been on my wish list for long when it disappeared! To my great surprise & delight, a dear friend had it sent to me. She'll be visiting me next week - she's from France - and I can't wait to show her! Filled with easy to re-create OR expand upon ideas, the book covers almost everything, from wall art & accessories to furniture & floors! Instructions are concise, with inclusive lists of materials & tools. Photos & diagrams are clear & easy to understand. This book is perfect for getting a jump start on design & decorating with economy, fun AND taste, and proves they needn't be at all mutually exclusive.

Great resource for the do it yourselfer with no talent! That is me and this book really helped to convert my studio from sad to chic. Thanks!

I sighed as I looked in the bag and saw what my girlfriend brought home, but this book is something I actually enjoyed using. I am too lazy to even shop for home decorating stuff, much less start diy projects, but these were easier than being dragged to all the stores. And they appealed to my frugal side, as well. As for style; I'm no expert, but when we have people over, they are always impressed. Definitely worth it.

This book gave me the perfect way to provide personal touches for my first house. It's way better than the tv shows that offer home design ideas in that the book gives you clear, simple steps for projects that are inexpensive! I always get good comments from friends about the design ideas I got from this book.
