Breath Taking

This is my first time reading this book, under this title or any other. So I'm not sure of what the other reviewers are talking about. The author's writing was so realistic that you could feel yourself in the character's presence during the graphic and colorful scenes. This book was exciting and thought provoking. Not for the faint at heart. If you like the writings of Clive Barker, you can appreciate Miss Campbell's book.

(RAW Rating: 4.5) - United in Vengeance

The supernatural comes to light in Denise Campbell's A WOMAN'S WRATH. Victimized as a child by the man she knew as her father and watched as her mother died trying to protect her, Serena Kowtow survived to become a well-respected judge in the Florida state judicial system. She grew up with a natural dislike of rapists, murderers and pedophiles. The only thing was, the judicial system was known for allowing many of them to slip through the cracks on legal technicalities. Serena could not stand to see this happen as her hatred for these types of individuals went unrequited. Through her therapist, Dr. Cathalina Shekhar, Serena is introduced to a group of women who have the power to catch those who fall through the cracks and others who harm children and women. Within the group, Cathalina is the recruiter; Elizabeth lives her life as a confused hermaphrodite; and Cleopatra is the protector. They feel once Serena undergoes the potentially lethal initiation, she will become their leader and then they'd only need one more member to end the search and truly set things in motion. During the initiation, Serena is to receive a bite from the Brazilian wandering spider. If she survives, she is expected to become the "Queen Spider" of the group. They can then unite in a sisterhood of anger and vengeance to rid the world of those who would harm the weak of society. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned and they come under the scrutiny of law enforcement. Campbell has written an explosively, shocking account of vigilantism laced with supernatural powers. Tired of being victimized and watching others go through the same; these women devised a plan to exact justice for those powerless to do so. Campbell's writing style is candid and the imagery very vivid. The sex and violence scenes are graphic and not for the faint of heart. This indeed was a page turner from the gut-wrenching prologue to the climatic ending. Reviewed by Brenda M. Lisbon of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
