A Terrible Liar

This was a Christmas gift for my wife who has not yet started reading it.

A remarkable life reflects a remarkable era

This is a frank, honest, sad, funny, and literate, first person telling of the story of Hume Cronyn. It is also a story about the institutions of Tory Canada in the late Edwardian era, Georgia in the Jim Crow era, stock theater and Broadway during the depression, and the growth and development of American theater and cinema since WWII. The cast of characters is huge, and many are well known to even the casual movie-goer. I don't know how this book fell into my hands, or just what piqued my curiosity the day I decided to check it out...but for me, it turned out to be a real page-turner, and one of the best books I've read this year.
