Book Overview

If heaven is truly a paradise where God dwells, we should desire it more than anything on this frail, fleeting earth. The trials and difficulties of life should each be seen in light of the coming glory of heaven. Unfortunately, we rarely view things from this perspective. Our schedules are filled with the present, allowing no time for contemplating or desiring eternity. Our incorrect perspective makes us spend our time on the least important things...

Scriptural and Insightful

"We were constantly with him, in prayer and preaching, for eight precious years. We never heard him utter a foolish word. He was one of the most intense eagles of God that ever penetrated the spiritual sky," Homer W. Hodge says of the author in the preface. So with the creditability of the author being established, the tone is set for a study of the desire of every Christian, i.e., to be with Jesus at Home. In the opening chapter, heaven as a place is established. Pastor Bounds writes, "The facts are that death does not end all, that death cannot end all." He goes on to add that, "Jesus is our pioneer, gone to prepare heaven for us." Bounds seeks to make heaven more real in the minds of Christians by focusing attention on it rather than the things of the earth. Using the Bible as his source he ponders what it will be like there. He notes, "Earth will not be forgotten, but the former things will scarely be remembered." The final chapter talks about the reunion of believers in heaven. He says relationships will be stronger and more hallowed there than on earth. We will know even as we are known, he reminds us...writing, "We will not lose our identity in heaven; we will have the same peculiarities and specific makeup in our entire moral being." The legacy Bounds left can be an encouragment to Christians who work in obscurity. The biographical section about the author points out that he spent a lot of time reading, writing, and praying. "He died on August 24, 1913, still relatively unknown to most of the Christian sphere."
