Book review for A month of Seven days

In the book A month of Seven days, Shirley Climo uses a very a descriptive format. Here is a excerpt from this book: Something-Some noise made Zoe open her eyes. The window panes were no brighter than pale gray squares, so it was long past daybreak. She lay rigid on the floor, listening. A tree creaked in the wind, and a squirrel, or an other creature, scampered across the roof. She could hear the straw mattress rustle as her mother turned and a slight whistling snore from Jim Henry, curled on the bear skin rug. Otherwise, all was quiet. Then a rifle shot split the silence....In the book A month of Seven days, by Shirley Climo a girl named Zoe Snyder has a lot going on. Zoe's father is fighting in the Civil war. Zoe's mother is pregnant. Zoe also has an annoying younger brother named Jim Henry. Zoe hears that her father is coming home. The Yankee soldiers were also in her town. They were in a search of a rest stop. Unfortunately, they picked Zoe's house. Zoe wants to drive away all the Yankees. Will she succeed or will she fail...?A month of Seven days, is good both for boys and girls. It is a mixture of fun and learning at the same time. You also learn things like facts from the Civil war time. It is recommended for ages 9-12. By: Sapna

Zoe's personal battle with the Yankees

Zoe Snyder is a yound girl who's whole world, like those around her, has been turned upside down. Zoe must struggle to keep her wits about her as she tries to survive the occupation of the Yankee forces in her town and in her home. She discovers that courage lurks in the strangest of places. This was one of the first historical fiction novels I read as a child, and since then I have read many more. This is a short beautiful work that I would recommend to anyone of any age although it is aimed at young adults. Ms. Climo has a talent and I am glad she wasn't afraid to share.

A great book.

I loved this book. It transports you into the middle of the civil war. It's easy to identify with Zoe, an ambitious young girl trying to take her house back form imposing soldiers. I read this book four years ago, and I find myself thinking of it often. It left a lasting impression in my memory.
