What a wonderful, much needed story about the gift of time and an acquaintance with one's own imagination. I read this book not only to my own acquisitive and over-scheduled children, but to a class of 1st graders, all of whom seemed somehow thirsty for this message about slowing down. The magic of this book is its ability to convey something important, through a captivating story and illustrations that my children love to pore over. Everyone loves this book -- as evidenced by its being the runaway best seller at my school's recent book fair.

As a retired teacher, I've read hundreds of books for children. This book fills the bill in all areas. First of all I noticed the colorful illustrations. The animations jumped off the pages. Each page contained limited sentences - (great for keeping the attention of little ones!) But what makes the book really outstanding is the message! It is a reminder to us all to slow down a little - find some quiet time...let our imaginations run free...if only for a little while! Kudos to this first time children's author. I sincerely hope it is not her last!

The challenge for any parent or educator goes beyond engaging a child in independent, un-aided creative play - the real challenge is teaching them how to choose that experience for themselves. This wonderful tale illustrates the transition from our "stuff" experiences to our "mindful" experiences and how the power of that (once experienced) is so much more fulfilling. A timely tale for the over-programmed or new economy. Also a tale for finding the way to activate the non-digital parts of our brains.

This book is a wonderful story for both children and adults alike. With all of life's clutter, "A Moment of Quiet" offers a refreshing reminder that it is okay to slow down - and by slowing down, much more can be gained than lost.
