I bought this book back in the 80s when it was still in print. It remains one of my all time favorite cookbooks. I am sorry it is out of print. I just took this book off the shelf because I was making a list for my siblings of the recipes I have cooked most often over the years. I was surprised how many were from this book. The recipes feature unusual combinations of commonly available foods. Even the more unusual ones are good, and the presentation is reliable. If you like to try unusual recipes, but do not want to risk major disappointments, should look into this book. For example, the sweet swiss chard pie, which sounds strange, became a favorite in my family. Now that I have remembered how much I have used this book, I guess I will have to buy used copies for my family members, so they can make my favorites as well.
wonderful pasta recipes!

I bought this book in the late eighties and have been using it regularly ever since. I own a LOT of cookbooks, but this one has some of the best pasta recipes around... Check out the pasta with egg sauce, pasta with pecorino and pepper and pasta with goat cheese and basil. Simple, inspired, delicious, and they stand the test of time. For the more experimental, try the sage and garlic soup...it is fantastic and healthful, or the lentil soup - beautifully spiced and filling. These two split their time between Toronto and the Mediterranean....I think they only have one other book, but this is a book you will keep coming back to...
