A day in the life of a high schooler

I loved a Matter of Attitude. I loved the colorful characters from her family members, school friends and those enemies we find in high school. Angela Jenkins is a good role model who sometimes make bad choices like we all do, but she learns her lesson and comes out on top. I highly recommend this book.

Attitude, Attitude, Attitude...

A Matter of Attitude by Hayden is a look at what occurs when winning becomes everything. Fifteen year old Angela Jenkins feels she plays third string in her family. Her elder brother, Quick Digits, is eighteen and on his way to a musical career, and Angela feels he is their dad's favorite. Younger brother, Omar, is brilliant with excellent grades and the apple of his mother's eye. Angela feels she is the work horse who has spent the summer slaving away in her mom's restaurant. But once school starts, she is going to show them all. She will be in ninth grade and she is convinced she can become the director of her school's holiday fashion show. Because one thing Angela has and no one can compete with is her cutting-edge fashion sense. She has always been known for her eccentric style of dress and she is convinced that if she wins she will be on her way to fashion stardom. Once school starts Angela discovers boys, especially the very cute JaRoli Spencer. As luck would have it, JaRoli is already taken. And it turns out his girlfriend is the very lovely and extraordinarily fashionable Karen Frasier. Karen is also interested in the coveted position of director. Immediately Angela makes up her mind that she is going to win, no matter what it takes. She is befriended by the school's bad girl, Shayla Mercer, who for a price convinces her she can get her elected. With Shayla's assistance and the wrong attitude, Angela's life veers off on a course she never intended. She is so focused on winning she cannot see how her actions could jeopardize others. A Matter of Attitude is a fast-paced cautionary tale about how easy it is to get caught up in winning and how quickly situations can get out of control. I recommend this young adult title to all teen readers. Angelia Menchan APOOO BookClub
