A Light in the Attic

I bought all of Shel Silverstein books when I first began teaching elementary school 25 years ago and I still use it today! These books are classics! The humor he uses in his poetry hits kids' funny bone all of the time! He writes in a variety of poetic styles, so many types of poetry examples can be used and students can use these as mentor texts to write their own various forms of poetry. I can't say enough good things about these books! Make sure you buy the companion book, "Where the Sidewalk Ends." Also, you HAVE to get "The Giving Tree," which is a short book that promotes kindness and giving.

My favorite book of Shel's so fair and the book was in great condition.

Love this book the most out of all Shel's works. When I'm feeling down, I just read this book and my mood improves. The book didn't come with a book cover, but I'm fine with that. The book had no marks, rips, tears, bends or writing in it. Looks like it could be brand new even.

A light in t to he attic, the book my daughter wanted

Well my bad, I guess I didn’t read the description. I am so used to just clicking on what I want and getting what I think, but this book was not in English…………… Guess I’ll order again and read description to make sure it’s in English

Whimsical and fun

I love this book! It’s fun book to read to your kids. I used to Read this book to my youngest. She thought it was cute and funny. My 10-year-old really gets a kick out of it. It’s pretty easy to read and has pictures almost on every page.

Takes me back when I was a kid

I used to absolutely love this book when I was young and now I read it to my kid and he laughs and laughs!! Great fun book that you and your child will enjoy together!! Highly recommend !

Wasn’t quite what I expected

Full of silly poems that may keep your child reading it. Mine lost interest pretty quickly.

Love this book!!

Some of these poems are much deeper then I realized as a kid. A great addition to my collection

book/poetry

Shel Siverstein is the best! Great for boys and girls 7-13, even adults! Introduces 'kids' of all ages to fun poetry.

Where does the sidewalk end? In the attic.

If you don't remember these rhymes from your childhood, then it's about time you visited the attic, "A Light in the Attic," that is. Silverstein combines humorous sketches, whimsical poetry and fanciful word play in another amusing collection. "Where the Sidewalk Ends" will always be my favorite, but poems like "Spelling Bee," "Deaf Donald," "Nobody" and "Little Abigail and the Beautiful Pony" definately make "A Light in the Attic" a close runner-up.If you know Silverstein's work, then you are familiar with his simple rhyming style. His flair for combining drawings and words make for a book that's much more than just a collection of poetry. His poems are an experience that would be diminished without the visual aspect.Silverstein's collections are great for all ages. I read them as a kid, but I enjoy them just as much now. Silverstein has the soul of a child, but the wit of a sage."The saddest thing I ever did seeWas a woodpecker peckin' at a plastic tree.He looks at me, and 'Friend,' says he,'Things ain't as sweet as they used to be.'"-Shel Silverstein page 83

The best book of all times, exiting and very funny.

This poem book is the best yet, I have never read any poems as funny as the ones Shel Silverstein writes."A Light in the Attic" is a book for people of all ages. The whole class of seventh graders enjoyed it.We were laughing our heads out when we heard the poem,"Standing is Stupid".I recomend this book to anyone who is having a bad day and wants a moment of happiness!

Okay, maybe we can’t eliminate censorship (yet...#goals), but we can celebrate Banned Books Week with gusto by reading all of the stories that someone (or someones) tried to silence, destroy, or restrict access to. Here are 50 of the most frequently banned and/or most recently challenged books, along with the "who, why, and how" of literary censorship in America.
