From Steve at J. Kaye's Book Blog

"A Flower Blooms on Charlotte Street", by Miliam McGraw Propst, is based on the true life of her grandmother in Asheville, North Carolina at the turn of the 20th century. This cute, loveable story stars Ociee Nash who was named such because her little brother couldn't pronounce her given name, Josephine. Ociee, brothers, Ben and Fred, and father George Nash live on a farm in Mississippi where her mother died of the measles just a year before. Knowing it wasn't the best environment for raising a ten year old girl, George sends Ociee to be raised by his older sister, Mamie, who is a self-employed seamstress working out of her house at 66 Charlotte Street, Asheville, N.C. Gypsies, an overnight train ride, a neighborhood fire, and the city life of Asheville, population 15,000 is some of what Ociee experiences in this story. It has the Tom Sawyer feel to it, and is definitely a charming story of a simpler time.

A "warm fuzzy feeling" book. You don't want it to end.

This is a very sweet book. The author writes so you truly "feel" her words. The author's grandmother, Ociee, is a delight. I hope Milam Propst writes a sequel as I would enjoy reading more about Ociee in her later years. I have bought at least 6 copies for gifts for my friends.

Makes you feel good all over!

If you want to read a nice book that gives you a warm, cozy feeling, this is for you..no violence, no bad words. The author's charachters come alive and by the end you feel you know the protagonist, Ociee, personally. I am ordering additional copies for several friends and family members.I hope Milam will come out with a sequel. I want to know more about Ociee.
