In order to win the hand of a princess, a young goatherd must fill a flask with sea water and bring it back to her father's court. His long journey to the sea is filled with perilous adventures, but he accomplishes his task and in so doing proves himself a wise and worthy successor to the old king. The story is exciting and beautiful and like all true fairy tales, gives us a glimpse into a marvelous other world, a place and time known only to the imagination. The lavish illustrations by Laszlo Gal illuminate this first fairy tale by one of Canada's foremost poets, P.K. Page; together they will delight readers of all ages.
