Book Overview

Winner of the Coretta Scott King illustrator award, I, Too, Am America blends the poetic wisdom of Langston Hughes with visionary illustrations from Bryan Collier in this inspirational picture book that carries the promise of equality. I, too, sing America. I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen When company comes, But I laugh, And eat well, And grow strong. Langston Hughes was a courageous voice of his time, and his authentic call for equality still rings true today. Beautiful paintings from Barack Obama illustrator Bryan Collier accompany and reinvent the celebrated lines of the poem "I, Too," creating a breathtaking reminder to all Americans that we are united despite our differences. This picture book of Langston Hughes's celebrated poem, "I, Too, Am America," is also a Common Core Text Exemplar for Poetry.

Excellent reference source, mind the implications

This handsome, sturdy reference work serves up the words of Jesus on an A-to-Z thematic basis with a simple, serviceable intro to each citation under the rubric of 'setting'. The result is a highly accessible compendium to Jesus' words, neither illuminated nor obscured by commentary, with just enough context to establish their environment. It would be difficult not to be grateful for such a sourcebook. My only concern is...

The format includes the setting, the Biblical Text (quoted from the sayings of Jesus) arranged in alphabetical order by a key word, term, concept or phrase, beginning with "abandonment" and closing with "Zechariah." This is neither a commentary...

Thank you Cecil, for making my studying easier!

How delighted I was to discover this new reference book for my library. My main goal in life for many years has been to get to know Jesus better everyday. I have taken many bible study courses over the years, most being "Precepts for Life" by Kay Arthur who requires a lot of homework. I spend hours combing through reference books either while doing my homework or when I am trying to explain Jesus to someone. The joy of...
