A Dangerous Return

Because I have the honor of hearing many of the author's ideas before he pens them and I get the opportunity to read his work in-the-raw (being one of his editors and THE number-one fan among his number-one fans), I thought it would be somewhat of a task to write a positive review without being biased. Thus, I waited to see other reviews before posting my review. I want to speak to you as a reader. Accordingly, let me begin by offering this bit of (strong) advice. First, you must read "Love & Justice," and then "Whispers From a Troubled Heart" so you can move with the flow of the characters. This body of Rique's work is a series involving the main character, Jason Jerrard, Virginia City's finest detective. "A Dangerous Return" is the third installment and is the continuing saga of the "Boy Wonder" detective's work life and personal life (Note here: crime and passion.) At this point, I do not intend to be redundant of overview synopses, editorial reviews or other readers' reviews. But, just as Jason is in the joys of his rekindled relationship with high-school sweetheart, Monique, his early retirement is interrupted by the sudden death of a close friend. For a book to be engaging for me, I have to feel as though I am in the moment throughout the entire book. Rique's writing style delivers that sense. I can relate with the characters. I can even relate (literally) with quite a few of the passionate scenes. I work to live; so the passion/crime balances out for me. "A Dangerous Return" is another excellent read from author Rique Johnson. I unbiasedly recommend this novel, and I hope my words are useful in helping you make the decision to explore Rique Johnson.

I can't say enough about Rique Johnson and his passion as a author. His novels are so detailed, it's like watching a movie. I love the cocky, sexy, yet dangerous, Jason Jerrard. I was very pleased that Monique's son, Jason's character was included more in this phase of the detective series. I can't wait to find out if he will mend his relationship with the older Jason after the horrific incident involving Monique. I was sad to read about her death, but I truly believe this sets the stage for Jason's wicked side to come to surface. I am a firm believer that the best is yet to come when it comes to this detective series. I look forward to the sequel as well as other great reading material from Rique. Good job, Rique

Rique Johnson has done it again with this sequel, A Dangerous Return. I have read all his books and enjoyed each and everyone. He has earned his place in contemporary mystery/thriller. Jason is a detective that has nothing but mayhem from his job. Jason is a great detective but trouble follows him through all the series. With this sequel Jason hits the lotto and retirement is his first name until his Captain is killed. He couldn't leave it up to his old co-workers to find the killer or killers of his Captain that he considered as a father. While on his mission to find out what happen he loses some folks on the way. The case grows and grows as Jason fears for his life but he don't stop until all the bad guys are caught. If you haven't read the book before this one pick it up. Enjoy!

His beloved Sasha (see LOVE AND JUSTICE) won the lotto enabling Virginia City, Nevada Police Detective Jason Jerrard to retire young and at a time the department leadership and the mayor is irate with their top sleuth. He feels even more fortunate that he re-fell in love with Monique (see WHISPERS FROM A TROUBLED HEART) since Sasha died. They go on a Caribbean vacation leisurely stopping in Aruba, Barbados, Saint Thomas, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. When they come home to Virginia City, an enigmatic threatening note awaits them. Someone informs Jason that this is "Act 1- The Introduction- we're coming for you"; he knows he must wait for the rest of the play to unfold as he as nothing to act on. Widower Captain Frank North meets Daiquiri Drinks and for the first time since his wife died, he goes off with a woman. However, she drugs him and with the help of her lover Poncho, places him in his car. When he awakens he turns on the ignition and his vehicle explodes. Frank is dead. Unable to stay out as Frank was his friend as well as his boss, Jason comes out of retirement retuning to the force so that he can officially investigate over the objection of Monique. As their relationship is in danger of ending, Jason begins to uncover ties to the highest state offices not yet realizing the peril he places Monique in. This is an exciting police procedural in which Jason feels compelled to make A DANGEROUS RETURN to the force although that most likely this will end his loving relationship with Monique. The story line is fast-paced once Jason opens the first act letter and never slows down until the five act tragedy is played out. Although the hero's relationships with women will remind readers of Virginia City's Ben Cartwright, Rique Johnson provides the sub-genre audience with an absorbing whodunit. Harriet Klausner

Rique has done it again writing another great story about Detective Jason Jerrard. Just when you think Jason is about to find love and happiness for the 3rd time, someone from his past destroys it all for him in a blink of an eye. This book is wonderful from the beginning to the end and will have you on the edge of your seat trying to help fight Jason's battle with him. If you have read Rique's previous 2 books involving Jason, you will see that with each sequel the stories get better and better! I can hardly wait for the next installment to see where Rique will take me this time with his Jason saga's. Let me not forget to mention that the love scenes will have you sweating and needing a cold drink of water and a fan or two. Way to go Rique!
