Highly amusing parody of "A Connecticut Yankee"

Ever since Mark Twain wrote the brilliant comedy "A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur's Court" both other writers and Hollywood have mined a rich seam of humour from copying the idea of someone from the writer's own time sent back to Camelot. Some of these have been very good (I particularly like the song "Busy Doing nothing" which came from the first film version) while others have been less so. Marianne Mancusi's book is definately one of the most amusing of the genre. The heroine, Katherine (Kat) Jones, an associate fashion editor straight out of "Sex and the City" compelte with $400 Manolo Blahnik shoes, is attending a mock medieval carnival called "King Arthur's Fayre. She manages to annoy a fortune teller who threatens to cast a spell on Kat. Nobody else takes this seriously, but a few minutes later Kat is watching a simulated joust when the lance breaks, and a fragment flies towards her and strikes her on the forehead, knocking her out. She recovers in Camelot ... Of course there is the obligatory serious of jokes as Kat initially assumes she is still in the 21st century among people pretending to be medieval knights and ladies. But eventually she realises that she really has gone back to a time where decent clothes and shoes, not to mention a decent cafe latte, are more than a thousand years away. How to get home? The style in which the story is told is a delight, and it is a funny, entertaining romp with a lot of surprises and shock twists. Strongly recommended. To resolve the chaos created by the hilarious surprise ending, Marianne Mancusi has written a sequel, which is called "A Hoboken Hipster in Sherwood Forest."

Completely fun. frisky, and powerful!

I loved "The Mists of Avalon" despite it being long and slow in places. Marianne does "Mists" one up in so many ways. Once again a strong woman behind the age old story of Camelot, the love she shares with Lancelot Du Lac and the unfolding of a timeless tale of magic, royalty and those who covet all that is Camelot. Our heroine's plight and travels through time and space, the way she gathers her wits about her and sets out on finding a way home is a credit to the strength of all women. Her unwilling love with Lance is enough to bring anyone's imagination to a rolling boil and leave one breathless. Everyone is there, the legend is just as has been told time and again, this is just a new twist that is a pleasure to read! Fun, frisky and powerful are just a few words to describe this fanciful twist involving time travel and a modern woman in King Arthur's Court. I love this book, and am amazed this is a first book from anyone, well written, gripping and very much worth the time and energy it takes to read it!

Great Read - Time-Travel

I just finished a wonderful book called A Connecticut Fashionista In King Arthur's Court. This was a very funny time travel book. Kat, a fashion magazine editor, travels to the past. Kat meets up with Sir Lancelot du Lac, Queen Guenevere, King Arthur, and many other's from King Arthur's Court. Kat and Lancelot fall in love, but how will Kat make it back home? How will living in the past change the future? What about Gwen and Lance??? If you want to know please read this book. You will love it - I did!

Refreshingly different

Great debut novel! Mancusi is really on to something with this different writing style. Her refreshing references to a collaboration of celebrated works from the entertainment world, that we all know and love, make this one a worthy read. The unique way she footnotes all of her not so original thoughts during the writing, giving credit where it was due, is nothing less than spectacular! (This Author was SO obviously raised in front of a TV receiving the typical American educational upbringing courtesy of modern day television programing) Laugh out loud funny, and a great escape from the mundane! Great job Marianne, I will be anxiously awaiting the sequel.

Adorable!

This book brillantly explored the legend of King Arthur with "Sex and the City" flair. I applaud the author, Marianne Mancusi, who's writing style is completely creative, hip and edgy. I laughed out loud many times while I read the book. Actually, I couldn't put it down. I stayed up so late one night reading it, I over slept the next day and was late to work. I couldn't resist finding out what situation the heroine in the book, Kat, was going to get herself into next. I'd say this is a must read for anyone's upcoming spring and summer reading list.
