A Choice to Cherish

During a cold Montana Christmas, Alan cuts down and decorates a Christmas tree for himself and his dying grandfather, George. As his present, Alan may choose one of eight keepsakes of his grandfathers. Yet before he can choose, he must read a story George wrote about each keepsake. Through these stories, Alan learns the secrets of his grandfather's life.

Very touching

I thought this book was beautifully written. It is a very touching and emotional story. I read it in just a couple of hours one afternoon because I didn't want to put it down. It is a book that should be read and reminds us how short life can be and that we all need to learn forgiveness and exam our relationships with God, our family and friends.

Small, but powerful

A wonderful, thoughtful journey that the reader is fortunate to be a part of. Of special significance to me is that places of his grandfather's youth are near my hometown! Readers who like this book should consider reading The Holy Man by Susan Trott.

Most touching ever

This is quite possibly the best book I have ever read. The characters are not real although, Alan Maki, brings such life to them it causes one to desire to seek the town and people out. The stories that George writes, about his most cherished momentos, will make you laugh, cry, and contemplate your own life and what you will leave behind for others to cherish as much as they cherish you. It causes one to ask, "What will the sum of my life come down to...?" "A CHOICE TO CHERISH" also examines relationships and how sometimes we forget the importance of choosing our battles carefully, especially with loved ones. The lack of forgiveness sometimes carries a hefty price that pride sometimes won't allow us to see clearly past and humble ourselves into forgiveness. Alan Maki examines this human trait in a most poignant manner. My copy is autographed and carries a newspaper clipping from a local Montana newspaper that tells about Mr. Maki and "A CHOICE TO CHERISH". It was a Christmas gift from my mom and I will truly cherish my copy for all time!!

Heartfelt, touching and timely

Choice to Cherish is a heartfelt and timely book we could all use more of. While its not a book I would normally read its one that Im glad I bought. It takes the reader on a journey we all need, not just at this time of year but always. Its a welcome journey of the heart. Worth reading if you want to be moved.

A heartwarming Christmas story.

This book will touch the heart of anyone who has a special relationship with their Father or Grandfather. The touching story, the size, and the price of this book will make it an excellent Christmas gift for special friends and loved ones.
