As a special education middle and high school teacher, over the years I have enjoyed using this easy-to-read nonfiction book to increase my student's knowledge of and interest in learning about the Civil War. Of course, as Freeman Sparks Bowley's great granddaughter, for odvious reasons my review may be somewhat biased, but I can say with all honesty that when I read this book for the very first time, I found it so enthralling that I read it all in just one sitting! I sincerely hope that if any of your students decide to read my great grandfather's story about his experiences in the Civil War, it will increase their interest in the war as much as it has my students. Sincerely, Robin Bowley Cookson, Ed.M., C.A.S.
