After reading all the reviews here you can tell that folks either adored this book or hated it. Add me to the adored column, because I devoured this book in one weekend and have it on my keeper shelf. Yes, there are graphic sex scenes but I think they advance the plot - they establish the lengths to which the characters are willing to go to get what they want. I like Sybil's independence and understand Hunter's reluctance so I cannot agree with those who say the plot is unrealistic. Except for the ghost, but he is hysterically funny and his interruptions are a welcome addition. I love this whole series, but this is my favorite of the bunch.
Sweet love story with steamy love scenes

This is my first read of Stella Cameron's work. She has an unusual style but I found that I enjoyed the story. I liked the hero, Hunter, mostly because he seems more human compared to the conventional heros in romance novels. Unlike romances written for this era, the men in this series, come with flaws despite their wealth, power and good looks. This makes them more believable. Hunter is not your brooding hero, but being a lawyer, he has a certain sense of confidence and control about him. Of course, everything changes when he is around Sybil. He's attracted to her but deny's the attraction mostly because he thinks he knows what's better for her, overlooking the fact that she's loves no one else but him. In the meantime, Sybil's determination to have a baby with him and Hunter's struggle to resist his own growing love for her, sets the stage for a romance highly strung with anticipation. I also liked the fact that the women in the story were not afraid of asking questions. One can't help but like Sybil, for she is an kind and innocent, and yet, is determined to defy convention and overcome her ignorance. Her revelations on physical intimacy is amusing and yet endearing, for she is wants only Hunter. What I found surprising was that one would have never thought, after reading the first few pages, that the love scenes would be so explicit. The style of writing masks the racier dialogues between the characters. If you enjoy steamy love scenes, amidst an intriguing storyline, then I would recommend this book. However, I do have to warn that it does take some time getting used to the style at the beginning, and it may be true that the author is still searching for her signature style, but in general, I believe Ms. Cameron has a lot of potential.P.S: Contrary to a comment from one of the reviewers, I don't believe Hunter had sex with the girl in the pub. He was pretending to do so because she would have gotten into trouble otherwise. I reread the scene a couple of times after reading the comment, and strongly believe that he had merely made it look like they were.

This is the first Stella Cameron book I've read and I can't believe this is out of print. Thank goodness I got my hands on a copy! Her characters are positively endearing and the circumstances are hilarious! The sex is great and unashamed, the heroine is a true woman and the hero is charming without being ridiculous. I think I've fallen in love with Hunter and Sybil along the way. If you can find a copy, BUY IT!
Kept me puzzled and chuckling

7B kept me chuckling all the way through. The clever plot --this is not a skim read--twists convincingly and kept me hopping. I really got into all the stuff about Hunter's Chief of Chambers at the Inns of Court. Ms. Cameron does her homework. Each turn of events leads not to that nasty slippery feeling that's so common in books, but to a feeling that you're off on another chace and you can't miss a word. The love story is great. The quirky characters (Hunter and Sibyl are a perfect couple--first perfectly at odds, then too intelligent to stay that way) are one long smile. This series gets better all the time. If you haven't read More and More and All Smiles, the first two books in the series, give them a whir. Now I'm waiting for the next in the series and trying to figure out who the main characters will be.
Author's most entertaining historical romance to date

In 1822 London, the remaining resident of town house 7B decides at twenty-eight she wishes to raise a child. Perhaps it is loneliness since her sister Meg married. Still, shy Sibyl Smiles knows that she wants her neighbor, friendly barrister Hunter Lloyd, to sire the child with her without any matrimonial strings.Hunter is already in love with Sibyl. However, this is not the time for Sybil to turn into a seductress siren as he has made enemies that could endanger his beloved if any one knew how much he loves her. Hunter has just successfully defended a friend of the monarch and the losers want vengeance with the barrister and Sibyl, being easier targets. As Hunter tries to keep Sibyl safe, long time ghostly resident Septimus Spivey plays matchmaker in the hope of ridding himself of pesky non-descendent mortals.Stella Cameron's 7 Mayfair books are always fun to read and her latest may be her most entertaining to date. Sybil and Hunter are a charming duo while Septimus remains his usually humorous and cantankerous self, arguing with other ghosts and plotting a dehumanization campaign. The story line is filled with action as the villains plan to "appeal" the court ruling through any means including violence and murder until their side triumphs. Best- selling Ms. Cameron has written another amusing tale filled with warm characters, many of which appeared in the series previous two books.Harriet Klausner
