The New York Times Book Review said of this book, It is a mind-boggling feat, this survey of 7,000 years of glittering memorabilia of lost empires, royal egos, superstition and sentiment. This comprehensive volume is one of the best and most beautifully illustrated histories of jewelry available. 400 illustrations, 250 in full color.
This book surveys jewelry from as early as 5000 BC to the mid 20th century and showcases work from all over the world. What I like about this book is that there are lots of photos, both color and black and white. Most of the photos are large, and all of them show clear details. Since the book covers so much time and geographic area, there is not a lot of information on each time/culture, but that's understandable. An inspiring book for the jewelry designer, a great coffee table book for everyone else!
