I liked using the book

Yes, there were typos here and there but overall the information the book provided was great. It helps you analyze information so it doesn't review almost every event in US history, it gives you a nice overview of the most important events that will most likely be used when writing the DBQ or free-responses. The questions at the end of each chapter were good to use because they seemed as if they were extracted from a previous AP exam. I believe that this is a good review book for incoming AP students. I received my score the other day and I did get a 5 so I believe the book helped my score along with my hard efforts in class.

great, but not alone

I paid no attention in class all year, and began studying for the test two weeks prior to the test. This along with the REA book was my only prep for the test. I got a 4, but at that point I don't think any average person could achieve a higher score. It was very organized, the questioned at the end helped a lot, and so did the glossary. I skipped the last chapter, and no questions appreared from the last one anyway. I highly recommend this book. However, do get a dense thick book, or another review that's a bit more detailed because this book is a very mild review, and will often leave things out if they aren't crucial, but could help, on the AP. good luck! ;)

helped me pass ap test!

i am horrible at history but this book explained every aspect of us history and helped me pass the AP. this book is very detailed, plain and simple design (no pics or graphs. just text), and contains rapid reviews to help you remember what you just read in the lesson. if you are absolutely CLUELESS about us history, get this book. if u just want a general review for the AP, go for REA. the terms in the back were extremely helpful. i used many of them on the essay portions. the practice tests SEEM kind of easy, but i think it still resembled the real thing. detailed solutions are easy to understand. the book is printed on white paper, not the unappealing recycling paper, which is one of the reasons i bought it. buy it early in the school year so you can read it throughout the year. i rate this book 4 stars because of typos, such as missing periods, mispelled words, etc. also, a few info contradicted to that of my friend's ap book.

Marvelous book, underrated series

This is a fantastic review for the AP American History exam! It seems that everyone goes for the old guard of review book makers: Barron's, Princeton Review, REA. I did the same thing until this year, when, while I was browsing at a bookstore for AP review books, I came across this 5 Steps to a 5 series. Although the name of the series is a bit... underwhelming, I was very, very, VERY surprised when I took a look inside. It's a clear, concise, yet detailed review. It might seem superficial, but the large print and the thick, brilliant white pages also make a difference. It just seems so much more easy to read, without "dumbing down" the material in the least. In all honesty, you should seriously take a look at this series, even though it's a newcomer to the field.
