45 Caliber Revenge

This is the first in Brandvold's 45 Caliber series. I really like the Cuno Massey character, and have now read the first three titles in the series, and plan to read every one that is released. Rolf Anderson kills Cuno's father and step-mother. Bad move on Anderson's part.

"He had to try.If it didn't work out,he'd at least go to his grave knowing he'd done all he could."

In this novel Peter Brandvold creates a new character who is one you will come to like just as much as others in his action-packed westerns; that are the kind of tales that stick to being westerns and not mystery novels with a western flavor. In this book, Peter once again creates a legendary new character who you are going to fall in love with;just as you did with Lou Prophet or Ben Stillman, in his other novels. With this new character,Peter takes a different approach with his main character and starts out with a young lad, who is left to fend for himself after he loses his father and stepmother to the worst examples of low-life and known killers in the area. Cuno Massey,a hard working young man,who hardly knows how to handle a gun, decides the most important thing that remains in his life, is that he must revenge the brutal deaths of his father and stepmother. The fact that the identity of killers are not in doubt, and are well known and feared throughout the country; he sets out to get them .But how is he,a comparatively rank amateur going to be able to hunt down and and deal with these notorious killers without ending up killed in the process? You'll see! The story is filled with episodes and characters as Cuno embarks on his hunt.Learn how he masters a gun ,so that he will be able to confront a killer, who is a master in the deadly art of a gunslinger and without conscience. Cuno meets up with all the types of characters ,both good and bad,you have come to expect in the Old West. As much as you are going to like Cuno;wait till you see the gem Peter gives us with July Summer. When I finished this book,I was left with the hope that the story of both Cono and July would continue. No doubt,we have the makings of a continuing series here;especially with the great writing and imagination of Peter at work. Lo and behold!; I see there is a continuation with two more novels by Peter ; ".45 Caliber Fury" and ".45 Caliber Manhunt". This tale has everything from saloon shoot-outs,wagon trains, fights with Indians, soiled doves, campouts along the desert trails, ambushes, gunfights in the canyon, hopes and dreams, disappointments and evil, and even love and loyalty;all wrapped up in a story you'll find hard to put down once you start it. Peter's descriptive and picturesque writing will leave you with expressions that will come back to you over and over again;such as; "But if you're gonna claw that hogleg, then claw it or get your hand away." "The Indian grabbed at his arms and fought wickedly, kicking, but Cuno held him down with his hands and with one firm knee on the brave's chest. Slowly, the fight in the Indian died. The hands clutching at Cuno's arms released their grip and sank in the water. When Cuno loosened his grip on the brave, the body floated with the current." and; "Another white eyes trespassing our grounds," the brave said in Cheyenne. "Tonight,we'll sweep the ground around our fire with his s
