From a hidden world in the Tibetan highlands comes Pai, a strange and beautiful girl with a difference: three eyes and three hundred birthdays behind her Sent to Tokyo by a dying anthropologist, Pai... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Since my cover's different, I'm going by the title. I believe this is the 3rd volume(Dark Horse is finally putting a convenient volume # on the spine, thank you, starting around volume 6 & the re-prints)--Yakumo is already Pai's undying Wu(zombie) & tends to get dismembered regularly(this time it's just a hand), & monsters are usually ripped to pieces, plus a fair share of nudity, so this one isn't for timid souls. This series started in 1983 with over 35 collected volumes & counting. In this one Pai & Yakumo have traveled to Hong Kong in pursuit of the Figure of Man statue, but the trail leads to kidnapped spiritualist Steve Lung & a hotel room full of kidnapped naked ladies. Benares, Kaiyan Wang's Wu, needs the statue to revive his master, enlisting the service of a lesser demon. The storytelling is excellent--the overall story is advanced, not distracted by the various adventures in each book, & Yakumo is an interesting hero, having to deal with becoming something not human serving something not human, but he becomes a more than dutiful servant. It's easy to see why it's lasted so long.
