20th Century Artist on Art

This is a fantastic book--one of my favorites--and lots of fun to read. (See also Dore's book "Picasso on Art." The idea is similar: a lot of cool quotes.) I think Dore has/had a gift for mining treasure-troves. Nearly every page has something clever and insightful. One of my favorites, by Rueben Nakian: "Art should be aristocratic, elegant, with gardens and beautiful costumes, and horses and people speaking a clear and cultivated language." This book is good for coffee-tables. Even if you don't know much about Art, it doesn't matter. A. They'll teach you, B. It's fun to read. C. As Picasso said, "Even if I read a book on Einstein's physics, of which I understand nothing, I will still understand something else." Me gusta.
