Seeing both sides of the fence

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. While it's not a definitive book on hacking (what book is), it allows the common user to see what tricks and or techniques are used by some hackers to exploit others systems. For the Beginner, they can see what is done by some to attack and invade a computer or how to get around potential future attacks. For the Novice it can help by showing potential preventative measures that can be taken to thwart a hacker and even prevent some forms of spamming or spyware. For the Expert it may not be enough to wet your appetite but it's still good and fun reading. The author has taken the objective position of knowing more than the average computer user and shared some of the information he knows, isn't that what hacking has always been about? Suggestions that it is a book to "cash-in" on the hacker namesake to me seem misguided and wreaks of jealousy and arrogance by others. You'll find some of this in the hacking community unfortunately. Having been an avid computer user since 1982, I found the book to be entertaining and realistic. No page after page reading of jumbled codes without explanations. Basic and informative writing with a broad range of users in mind. Well worth the cover price in my opinion.

How 2 hack your world

this book has things like how to talk in 1337 (leet) and how to do strange things with your computer when i talked to the person who wrote it, tapeworm, on his website he said that the whole book was a joke and he was dared to submit his idea to a company but they took it and made it a book so it is a huge joke on his website but if you want to learn how to speak 1337 and learn words then you should buy it

Great read!

Tapeworm does an entertaining job of explaining the basics of 'white hat hacking' to anyone willing to listen. You have to have an open mind but he writes in a quietly amusing sort of way. I found myself quoting certain phrases in public, and anything that gets me weird looks is good. Personally, I loved it! Buy this one if you're up for an amusing book with some clever tips.

Well Done

Tapeworm's book does exactly what it is supposed to do. Teach newbies about computers and hacking. Hacking as defined here http://www.tf.hut.fi/cgi-bin/jargon?search=hacker . It's a great starting point for newbies who are tired of hearing RTFM. This is the FM. After reading this book you can take the knowledge he gives you as far as you want. He even provides the code from the book and some extras on his site. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about how their comuters work and fun pranks to play on them and I will the next time someone asks me to teach them how to hack. I would love to see more from him.

Great entertainment

2 stars? INJUSTICE I TELL YOU!! This book is great, it's fun to read and it has lots of stuf in I allready knew and lots of new things also. Because of this book I got really paranoid and spent 2 days examining al the processes running on my pc. I did a full system recovery twice just because I didn't trust all the files. Good written and entertaining book. 5 STARS
