1001 Things to Spot Long Ago

This is a lovely book for first grade age children and up. It keeps them intrigued and attentive for a long time. Also enhances their visual discrimination skills. I recommend the series.

This is the third book of this "1001" series that we've gotten for our 4-year-old son. They are excellent -- nice illustration, a small history lesson on every page spread, and good for working on numbers and counting. The "1001 Things in the Sea" is my personal favorite because the undersea illustrations and brilliant colors are really pretty (even after reading it 4,325 times and counting...).

This is a great book. It's much like the better know "Great City Search" and "Great Animal Search" books published by Usborne, but it is a bit easier for younger kids (my 3-year-old had no problems). The illustrations are very attractive, and many of the items were challenging for my 5-year-olds as well. Since you're looking for more than one of most items, the book is a nice counting exercise. Perhaps most importantly, kids can do it on their own because the numeral is next to the picture of the item they're supposed to find.
