The Eagle Has Landed was the breakthrough novel for British author Jack Higgins. It was an international juggernaut, and the first of many bestsellers. The Eagle Has Landed was adapted into a movie of the same name starring Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland, and Robert Duvall. Novelist Harry Patterson, one of whose pseudonyms is Jack Higgins, has written more than sixty novels. Thirty written under the Higgins' name have been thrillers. Other works, including A Prayer for the Dying and Thunder Point, have also been made into theatrical and television films. Higgins was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England in 1929, and moved with his mother to Belfast, Northern Ireland as a child. He grew up there and in Leeds, England. Higgins joined the British Army and served for several years on the East German border during the Cold War. Higgins also worked with the circus, in a factory, and as a laborer before attending college and graduating from the University of London. He lives on Jersey, in the Channel Islands.
